Preity Zinta Denies Rs 18-crore Loan Write-off Allegations

In a strongly worded statement, she dismissed the claims as “completely false.

Bollywood actress Preity Zinta has firmly denied allegations that an Rs 18 crore loan in her name was written off by the troubled New India Cooperative Bank Ltd. In a strongly worded statement, she dismissed the claims as “completely false.”

The controversy erupted after a Moneylife report exposed financial irregularities and alleged corruption within the bank. The report revealed that corporate loans of up to Rs 25 crore were sanctioned without informing branch managers. Many of these loans allegedly turned into non-performing assets (NPAs) within a year, raising concerns about fund mismanagement and prompting strict action from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

Among the high-profile cases mentioned was an Rs 18 crore loan supposedly linked to Preity Zinta, which was allegedly “written off” without following standard recovery procedures.

Setting the record straight, the actress issued a statement through her legal team: “More than 12 years ago, I had an overdraft facility with the New India Cooperative Bank. Over 10 years ago, I fully repaid the entire dues, and the account stands closed.”

The report further claims that in 2019, over 80 senior bank staff were forced to resign, raising concerns about internal operations. Disgruntled employees reportedly urged the RBI to intervene, calling for a forensic audit, the dissolution of the bank’s board, and recovery of losses from those responsible.

Meanwhile, Preity Zinta recently visited the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, sharing a picture on Instagram with the caption, “All roads lead to the Maha Kumbh. Satyam Shivam Sundaram.”

On the work front, she is set to make her Bollywood comeback with Lahore 1947, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan Productions. The film stars Sunny Deol, Shabana Azmi, Ali Fazal, and Karan Deol.
