Pradeep Rawat Was Among Indian Cinema’s Most Striking Villains, Says Aamir Khan

Veteran actor Pradeep Rawat died on August 4 at the age of 74 following a prolonged battle with cancer. The actor reportedly suffered a relapse and had been hospitalised for more than a month before he died at a hospital in Bhiwandi.
Aamir Khan paid tribute to his longtime co-star, remembering Rawat as a dedicated and fearless performer whose contribution to Indian cinema remained significant. The two actors worked together in several notable films, including Sarfarosh, Lagaan and the commercially successful action thriller Ghajini.
Speaking to Variety India, Aamir highlighted Rawat’s commitment to his craft and described his performance in Ghajini as essential to the film’s success. Rawat played the titular antagonist, delivering a menacing portrayal that became one of the most recognisable villainous performances of his career.

Aamir said Rawat was extremely dedicated and fearless as an actor, adding that Ghajini “wouldn’t have worked” without him. He described the character as one of Indian cinema’s most striking screen villains and credited Rawat with giving the film a powerful and memorable antagonist.
Rawat also appeared alongside Aamir in Lagaan, where he played the Sikh cricketer Deva Singh Sodhi, and in Sarfarosh. His ability to perform contrasting roles allowed him to build a career across different film industries, though his portrayal of the villain in Ghajini remained among his best-known performances.
News of Rawat’s death prompted tributes from colleagues and admirers who remembered his screen presence and commitment to acting.
