Pankaj Tripathi: I Can't Act Just for EMI and Survival Anymore

Pankaj Tripathi took a break from acting due to fatigue, now picks only exciting roles.

Acclaimed actor Pankaj Tripathi has revealed that he took an almost year-long break from acting after feeling creatively exhausted due to back-to-back projects. In a recent interview with a media portal, the actor spoke candidly about the toll continuous work took on him and why stepping away became necessary. He described the break as an important phase for self-reflection and artistic renewal.

Speaking to Variety India, Tripathi admitted that the constant pace of shooting had diminished his enthusiasm for acting. He said a sense of boredom and fatigue gradually crept in, leaving him disconnected from his craft. According to the actor, the break helped him reassess his priorities and rediscover what excites him as a performer.

“I was working back-to-back on projects. A sense of boredom and fatigue had crept in. I wasn’t enjoying my work. A break was much needed,” Tripathi said. He added that he has now become more selective, choosing projects that genuinely inspire him rather than accepting every offer that comes his way.

The actor further explained that he is at a stage in life where artistic satisfaction matters more than financial pressure. “I can’t do it for EMI and survival,” he remarked, emphasizing that he now acts only for excitement and creative fulfillment. He expressed hope that this approach will sustain him in the long run.

Tripathi also spoke about his evolving taste in cinema, stating that he wants to be part of meaningful films that balance entertainment with substance. While acknowledging that Indian audiences primarily seek entertainment, he stressed that storytelling should also convey deeper ideas and emotions beyond surface-level appeal.

On the professional front, Pankaj Tripathi has expanded his role in the industry by stepping into production with the web series Perfect Family. He will next be seen in Mirzapur: The Movie, which is scheduled to release in cinemas on September 4, marking his return to the screen after the reflective break.
