Actor Neetu Kapoor has spoken candidly about the emotional struggles she faced after the death of her husband, legendary actor Rishi Kapoor, and the intense trolling she encountered after deciding to return to work. During her appearance on Soha Ali Khan’s YouTube show All About Her, Neetu described the criticism as “hurtful” and “horrible,” revealing that many misunderstood the reasons behind her professional comeback.
Following Rishi Kapoor’s death in 2020, Neetu Kapoor resumed acting with JugJugg Jeeyo after a gap of nearly nine years. However, her decision to step back into the spotlight soon after her personal loss drew harsh reactions online, with some questioning how she could return to work so quickly. Neetu said the comments deeply affected her at a time when she was already struggling emotionally.
Speaking during the interview, which also featured her daughter Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, Neetu revealed that she had fallen into a difficult mental state after her husband’s passing. She said she suffered from severe insomnia for months and eventually began relying on alcohol to cope with the emotional pain and help herself sleep.

Neetu admitted that she was uncomfortable with how her life had changed during that period, especially because she had always considered herself health-conscious. Seeking medical help, she contacted her doctor, who arranged for specialised care. According to the actor, a gynaecologist visited her home regularly late at night, administering treatment to help her sleep and recover emotionally during the initial days after her loss.
The actor explained that returning to work was not an attempt to move on quickly, but rather a way to regain confidence and rebuild emotional stability. She recalled speaking with filmmaker Karan Johar, who encouraged her to resume work as part of the healing process. Neetu said the experience ultimately helped her regain a sense of routine and purpose.
