Mrunal Thakur Addresses Son of Sardaar 2 Delay Drama

Mrunal Thakur supports Saiyaara amid Son of Sardaar 2 delay.

As Mohit Suri’s Saiyaara continues its record-breaking run at the box office, surpassing Rs 300 crore domestically and Rs 500 crore worldwide since its July 18 release, speculation has swirled around other films shifting their release dates to avoid its dominance. One such film, Son of Sardaar 2, starring Ajay Devgn and Mrunal Thakur, moved its release from July 25 to August 1, 2025, sparking rumors of fear over Saiyaara’s success. Mrunal Thakur has now responded to the buzz with grace and positivity.

In an interview with Instant Bollywood, Thakur dismissed claims that the delay was due to fear, emphasizing support for Saiyaara’s triumph. “If a film is doing well, we want it to breathe, right? Let’s celebrate Saiyaara and give it the screens it deserves,” she said. Thakur, who has been busy promoting her film, expressed eagerness to watch Saiyaara, praising newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda for their “humongous” opening. “I’m so happy for Bollywood and proud of them,” she added, welcoming the new talent.

Directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, Son of Sardaar 2, a sequel to the 2012 hit, hit theaters on August 1 alongside Dhadak 2, a spiritual successor to the 2018 romantic drama. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Son of Sardaar 2 earned Rs 1.15 crore on its eighth day, August 8, with a total collection of Rs 34.15 crore and a Hindi occupancy rate of 10.48%. Despite the modest performance, Thakur clarified that the release shift was a gesture of support for Saiyaara, not a retreat.
