Kiran Rao's ‘Laapataa Ladies’ triumphed at the 2025 International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards in Jaipur, securing a remarkable 10 awards, including Best Picture and Best Direction. The film, celebrated as India's official Oscar entry, dominated all major categories, with Rao clinching Best Director and Nitanshi Goel earning Best Performance in a Leading Role (Female) for her portrayal of the enigmatic bride, Phool.
Reflecting on her win, Rao expressed profound gratitude: "It's a rare privilege to create a film like 'Laapataa Ladies'. Tonight has been nothing short of magical, and I am deeply moved by the audience's love and support."
The ceremony also saw Kartik Aaryan take home Best Performance in a Leading Role (Male) for "Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3," a testament to his journey in the franchise. "From the doubts at the start to the love we've received, this journey has been incredible," Aaryan remarked.
The emotional resonance continued with Goel's heartfelt acceptance, where she reminisced about watching IIFA as a child and encouraged aspiring actors to dream big. Her co-stars Ravi Kishan and Pratibha Ranta were also honored, receiving awards for Best Supporting Role (Male) and Best Debut (Female), respectively, further underscoring the film's sweeping success.
"Laapataa Ladies" additionally garnered accolades in technical categories, with wins for Best Story (Original), Best Screenplay, and Best Editing, highlighting its comprehensive achievement in storytelling and production.
The Silver Jubilee edition of the IIFA Awards were held over the weekend in in Jaipur with performances by Kareena Kapoor Khan, where she paid tribute to her grandfather, legendary filmmaker Raj Kapoor; along with Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Nora Fatehi, and Kartik Aaryan also taking to the stage. After the digital awards on Saturday, the film awards were given out on Sunday.
