Katie Leung Reflects On Career, Declares No Desire To Return To ‘Harry Potter’

Katie Leung values growth and self-awareness, choosing not to revisit her “Harry Potter” years.

Actress Katie Leung, best known for her role as Cho Chang in the Harry Potter franchise, has expressed that she has no desire to return to the "Harry Potter" days. Leung, who made her debut in 2005 with Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, described that period as a time of personal uncertainty rather than nostalgia.

In a recent interview, Leung reflected on her early years in the franchise, saying, “I was so young at the time, and I was so easily influenced by what people would say about me because I didn’t know who I was.” She later appeared in four additional films in the series, including Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2.

The actress, who currently stars in the hit series Bridgerton, emphasized that her focus now is on her work and personal growth. “I would not want to go back to that time [working on Harry Potter]. Not because I had a bad time or anything, but it’s just really nice when you know who you are, and I’m still figuring that out, but I’m a bit closer,” she said.

With HBO Max reportedly developing a new Harry Potter series, Leung offered advice to the actor portraying her character: “Just be themselves. For anybody really, (whatever) stage in their life, (my advice is) just to be themselves, because that’s what makes them unique... And to not let the kind of noise of other people get to you.”

Leung stressed the importance of embracing one’s own gifts and individuality, highlighting the lessons she has learned from navigating fame at a young age. Her comments reflect a mature perspective on personal identity and resilience in the entertainment industry.

Looking forward, Leung remains focused on her current projects and continuing to grow as an artist, while acknowledging the formative, if challenging, experiences from her early career in the Harry Potter franchise.
