Kareena Kapoor Reveals Why Daayra ‘Terrifies’ Her As A Mother Of Two Sons

Actor Kareena Kapoor has spoken about motherhood, emotional expression and the responsibility of raising her two sons, Taimur and Jeh, while discussing Meghna Gulzar’s upcoming investigative drama Daayra. Speaking at the film’s trailer launch, Kareena said stories dealing with disturbing subjects can leave her “terrified” as a mother. She added that such films also make her think about how children should be raised to become kinder and more emotionally aware adults.

Kareena said her biggest wish is for her sons to grow up understanding responsibility and treating others with kindness. She emphasised that boys should not be discouraged from showing vulnerability or expressing their emotions. According to the actor, children should be allowed to experience and communicate feelings such as sadness rather than being taught that crying is a weakness.

The actor also challenged the idea that emotional sensitivity is primarily associated with girls. She said boys and men can also be comfortable expressing their emotions, including crying in front of their family members. Kareena said she encourages her sons to express themselves openly, describing emotional awareness as an important part of growing up.

Kareena also recalled a particular scene from Daayra that disturbed her while filming but ultimately became one of her favourites. She referred to the film’s exploration of the tendency to place blame on women and said the scene, written by Meghna Gulzar, was emotionally challenging. Despite finding it disturbing, Kareena said she enjoyed performing the sequence because of the difficulty and depth it brought to her role.

Daayra stars Kareena alongside Prithviraj Sukumaran and revolves around an investigation involving their characters, Raman and Ajooni, within the same system. The trailer hints at questions surrounding justice and the manner in which it is delivered while keeping key details of the case undisclosed. The film is written by Meghna Gulzar, Sima Agarwal and Yash Keswani, with Saurabh Goswami serving as cinematographer and Charu Shree Roy as editor.

Daayra marks Meghna Gulzar’s return to Junglee Pictures after Talvar and Raazi, and also brings Kareena and Prithviraj together with the filmmaker for the first time. The film is backed by Junglee Pictures and Pen Studios. For Kareena, the project also provides an opportunity to explore difficult social themes while connecting them to broader conversations about responsibility, empathy and the way young people understand right and wrong.
