Kareena Kapoor Clarifies Rumours About Ranbir Kapoor And RK Studios Plans
Kareena Kapoor clarifies Ranbir Kapoor’s RK Studios revival rumours.
Actress Kareena Kapoor Khan has firmly denied recent rumours suggesting that her cousin Ranbir Kapoor is planning to revive the iconic RK Studios, founded by their grandfather, legendary filmmaker Raj Kapoor. Speaking at a recent event in Mumbai, Kareena addressed the speculation head-on, clarifying that no such revival is underway despite public enthusiasm for the idea.
The rumours gained traction earlier this year, with reports claiming Ranbir Kapoor had leased five floors in a commercial complex in Andheri East for 20 years to re-establish a modern version of RK Studios. Some accounts suggested the move would honour the Kapoor family's cinematic legacy, potentially involving new productions and even Ranbir's directorial debut under the revived banner. The original RK Studios in Chembur, Mumbai—a historic site that produced timeless classics like Awaara, Shree 420, and Bobby—was sold in 2018 following a fire and maintenance issues, marking the end of its physical operations.
Kareena Kapoor Khan set the record straight during her interaction with the media, stating, “That’s just not true. It was even being discussed in our family group, and everyone was like, ‘This isn’t happening.’” She emphasized that family discussions had unanimously dismissed the claims. Expressing a mix of sentiment and realism, she added, “I feel people really want it to happen... It’s heartbreaking, but it’s not happening.” Kareena highlighted Ranbir's current priorities, noting his deep passion for acting and describing him as one of India's finest performers today.

The actress suggested that perhaps her sister Karisma Kapoor (referred to as "Lolo") and Ranbir might consider such a venture in the future, but she personally does not envision herself leading it, as her strengths lie elsewhere. This comes amid broader family efforts to carry forward the RK legacy through their individual work in the industry rather than through a physical studio revival. Sources close to the family have previously labeled similar reports as baseless, reinforcing that no concrete plans or deals exist.
The Kapoor family's connection to RK Studios remains a cherished part of Bollywood history, evoking nostalgia among fans and industry insiders. While the physical site no longer exists in its original form, the enduring impact of Raj Kapoor's vision continues through the contributions of subsequent generations. Kareena's clarification appears to put an end to the latest wave of speculation, shifting focus back to individual careers amid ongoing interest in preserving the iconic banner's spirit.
