#JustIn: 23-Year-Old Hindu Garage Worker Killed in Brutal Arson Attack in Bangladesh
23-year-old Hindu garage employee Chanchal Chandra Bhowmik died from burns and suffocation in Narsingdi amid rising minority safety fears.
A 23-year-old Hindu garage worker was burnt alive by unidentified assailants while he was sleeping at his workplace in Narsingdi, a city located about 50 kilometres from the capital, Dhaka, police and local sources said on Saturday. The victim has been identified as Chanchal Chandra Bhowmik, son of Khokan Chandra Bhowmik, a resident of Lakshmipur village in Cumilla district. He was employed at a garage situated in the Khanabari Mosque Market area under the Narsingdi Police Lines jurisdiction, where the incident occurred during the night.
According to preliminary information, unknown men allegedly set the garage on fire while Bhowmik was asleep inside. A large quantity of inflammable materials stored in the garage caused the fire to spread rapidly, leaving the victim trapped. He reportedly died due to severe burns and suffocation before rescue efforts could reach him.

Local residents alerted authorities after noticing flames and smoke, following which fire service personnel arrived at the scene. However, by the time the fire was brought under control, Bhowmik had succumbed to his injuries. His body was later recovered and sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to identify those responsible for the incident. Officials said they are examining possible motives and reviewing any available witness accounts or evidence from the surrounding area. No arrests have been made so far.
The incident comes at a time of heightened political activity in Bangladesh, with national elections due in the coming weeks. Authorities have maintained that law and order will be enforced strictly and assured that those involved in violent crimes, regardless of motive, will be brought to justice as investigations continue.
