Jim Sarbh Jokes He Will Be Typecast as Parsi Historical Figures Forever

Jim Sarbh opens up about playing Parsi icons in OTT shows.

Actor Jim Sarbh has reflected on the evolution of his screen image over the past decade, acknowledging that his recent portrayals of prominent Parsi figures may lead to a certain degree of typecasting. In an interview discussing his latest role as Xerxes Desai in the series Made in India: A Titan Story, Sarbh said he has become increasingly associated with historical innovators and influential personalities after previously portraying Homi J. Bhabha in Rocket Boys.

Sarbh's current public image stands in contrast to the one he carried when he made his acting debut in 2016. The actor first gained widespread recognition for playing a ruthless hijacker in Neerja, directed by Ram Madhvani and starring Sonam Kapoor. Over the years, however, he has increasingly been cast in roles depicting visionaries, scientists, and business leaders who have shaped modern India.

His portrayal of Xerxes Desai has brought renewed attention to the legacy of the businessman credited with establishing Titan as one of India's leading watch and lifestyle brands. The role follows Sarbh's widely appreciated performance as Homi Bhabha, one of the architects of India's nuclear programme, in Rocket Boys. The similarities between the two characters have prompted discussions about whether the actor is becoming the preferred choice for portraying influential Parsi historical figures on screen.

While discussing the trend, Sarbh suggested that repeated casting in such roles could result in audiences associating him with a particular character type. At the same time, he indicated that portraying real-life figures offers an opportunity to explore individuals whose contributions have had a lasting impact on Indian society, industry, and scientific development.

The actor also spoke about the lessons he drew from playing Xerxes Desai, whose leadership and long-term vision helped transform Titan into a respected Indian brand. Through the role, Sarbh said he gained a deeper appreciation for entrepreneurship, innovation, and the importance of building institutions that endure beyond individual careers.

The series also features veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah as J. R. D. Tata, adding further historical depth to the narrative. As audiences continue to respond positively to his performances in biographical dramas, Sarbh remains one of the most sought-after actors for portraying complex real-life personalities, even as he acknowledges the possibility of being identified with a specific genre of historical roles.
