Instagram Tribute by Esha Deol Features Dharmendra’s Film Career and Family Memories

Esha Deol posts rare family photos and career highlights honouring her late father, Dharmendra; comments are disabled.

Esha Deol on Thursday shared a deeply emotional video tribute to her late father, Dharmendra, weaving together iconic moments from his 60-year film career with rare family photographs—including images of his first wife, Prakash Kaur, and sons, Sunny and Bobby Deol. The carefully curated montage, posted without a caption and with comments disabled, marked a poignant gesture of unity at a time when the two sides of the family have largely mourned separately.

The four-minute reel opened with Dilip Kumar’s vintage speech praising Dharmendra as “the most handsome man the industry has ever seen” and moved through clips from Sholay, Chupke Chupke, Yamla Pagla Deewana, and his final on-screen appearance in the upcoming war drama Ikkis. Interspersed were never-before-seen family snapshots: a young Sunny and Bobby clinging to their father, Prakash Kaur smiling beside him at early events, and tender moments of Dharmendra with Hema Malini, Esha, and Ahana. The video closed with Dharmendra’s own voiceover from Ikkis: “Zindagi bilkul in barf ki resho ki tarah hai… pal bhar ke liye theharti hai aur pighal jaati hai… Par jitni der rehti hai, badi khoobsurat lagti hai.”

The post came against the backdrop of visibly separate remembrance events. On November 27, Sunny and Bobby Deol organised a prayer meet in Mumbai attended by the entire Kapoor-Khan fraternity but not Hema Malini or her daughters. Hema, in turn, held her own prayer ceremonies—one at her Mumbai residence on the same day and another in Delhi on December 11 with Esha and Ahana present.

Dharmendra, who passed away on November 24 at age 89, had maintained both families throughout his life without ever formally divorcing Prakash Kaur, whom he married in 1954. While public interactions between the two households remained limited, Esha’s inclusive tribute—prominently featuring Prakash Kaur and the elder Deol brothers alongside her own mother—was widely interpreted as a quiet message of harmony and shared grief.

Fans flooded other platforms with appreciation for the gesture, many noting that Esha’s reel was the first public acknowledgement from Hema Malini’s side openly embracing Dharmendra’s complete family. As one user wrote, “In a single video, Esha healed decades of perceived distance. This is how you, Papa, make one big family.”
