Hema Malini To Receive Dharmendra’s Posthumous Padma Vibhushan In Delhi Ceremony
Hema Malini receives posthumous Padma Vibhushan for Dharmendra in Delhi.
Veteran actor Hema Malini is in the national capital to receive the posthumous Padma Vibhushan awarded to her late husband and legendary Bollywood actor Dharmendra, according to reports. The honour, India’s second-highest civilian award, was conferred on Dharmendra earlier this year, with President Droupadi Murmu scheduled to present the first set of awards in a formal ceremony.
Hema Malini described the moment as an emotional occasion, stating that her family considers it a significant recognition of Dharmendra’s contribution to Indian cinema. She is accompanied by her daughter Ahana, while her elder daughter Esha Deol was unable to attend. She also noted that other family members, including Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, were aware of the ceremony and shared in the moment of pride.
Dharmendra, one of Indian cinema’s most iconic figures, passed away at his Mumbai residence on November 24 last year, just days before his 90th birthday. He had earlier been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai after experiencing breathlessness and was discharged following treatment. His final rites were performed at the Pawan Hans Crematorium in Mumbai, followed by memorial prayer meetings held in both Mumbai and Delhi.

Following the announcement of the Padma Vibhushan, Hema Malini had earlier expressed gratitude to the government, stating that the recognition honoured Dharmendra’s decades-long contribution to Indian cinema. The Padma Awards are among India’s highest civilian honours and are presented annually to individuals across fields such as arts, literature, medicine, education, and public service.
The awards are conferred in three categories — Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri — and are formally presented by the President of India at ceremonies held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The recognition of Dharmendra’s legacy places him among distinguished recipients who have significantly contributed to India’s cultural and public life.
