Helen shares Salim Khan health update.
Veteran screenwriter Salim Khan was honoured with the prestigious Raj Kapoor Lifetime Achievement Award at the 62nd Maharashtra State Film Awards ceremony in Mumbai on Wednesday. His wife and veteran actor Helen accepted the award on his behalf and also shared an update on his health, saying that he is in good health after being admitted to hospital earlier this year. Helen's remarks came as she represented Salim Khan at the ceremony, where the veteran writer was recognised for his significant contribution to Indian cinema.
The Raj Kapoor Lifetime Achievement Award is presented as part of the Maharashtra State Film Awards and honours individuals who have made a lasting impact on the film industry. Salim Khan, one half of the celebrated screenwriting duo Salim-Javed, has had a long career in Hindi cinema and is known for his contribution to some of the industry's most influential films. While accepting the honour, Helen spoke about Salim Khan's current condition and reassured those present that he was doing well.
Her update comes after the screenwriter was admitted to hospital in February this year, prompting concern among his family, friends and admirers. Helen's statement provided reassurance about his health as she accepted the prestigious recognition in his absence. Salim Khan has played an important role in shaping the writing and storytelling of mainstream Hindi cinema. His partnership with Javed Akhtar produced a series of successful films and helped establish the screenwriter as a major creative force in the industry.

The Salim-Javed duo was associated with films that became particularly influential in the 1970s and 1980s, contributing to the emergence of the “angry young man” archetype and changing the prominence given to screenwriters in Bollywood. The lifetime achievement recognition also marks a continuation of honours for Salim Khan's contribution to cinema over several decades. Through his work as a screenwriter, he helped create memorable characters and stories that went on to become landmarks in Hindi filmmaking.
His contribution, alongside Javed Akhtar, has been widely recognised as an important chapter in the evolution of commercial Hindi cinema and its storytelling traditions. Helen accepting the award on his behalf added a personal dimension to the ceremony, particularly as she also addressed his health. Her assurance that Salim Khan is in good health is likely to come as welcome news to his supporters following his hospitalisation earlier this year. The award ceremony thus celebrated his enduring contribution to Indian cinema while also providing an update on the veteran screenwriter's well-being.
