'Haq' Box Office Collection Rises Strong on Day 2, Powered by Word of Mouth and Urban Pull

Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam’s Haq sees a strong Day 2 box office jump.

Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam-starrer Haq, a courtroom drama inspired by the landmark 1985 Shah Bano case, registered notable growth on its second day, collecting ₹2.85 crore net across India for a two-day total of ₹4.60 crore. Released on November 7, 2025, alongside competitors like Venom: The Last Dance, the film opened at ₹1.75 crore on Friday but surged 63 percent on Saturday, driven by positive word-of-mouth and strong occupancy in urban centres. Directed by Sanjay Gupta and produced under White Feather Films, Haq explores a 62-year-old Muslim woman’s fight for post-divorce alimony, blending social commentary with high-stakes legal battles.

Early estimates from Sacnilk pegged Saturday’s earnings at ₹2.85 crore, with Hindi belts contributing the bulk despite limited screens in southern markets. Morning shows averaged 18 per cent occupancy, climbing to 45 per cent in evening and night slots in metros like Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. The film’s realistic portrayal of triple talaq and maintenance rights resonated with audiences, earning praise for Yami Gautam’s powerhouse performance as the resilient protagonist and Emraan Hashmi’s nuanced role as her advocate. Critics hailed it as a “thought-provoking return to form” for Gupta, known for gritty thrillers like Kaante and Shootout at Lokhandwala.

Haq faces stiff competition from Hollywood holdover Venom: The Last Dance (₹12 crore weekend) and regional blockbusters, yet its organic growth signals potential for a stable week-ahead run. Sunday previews suggest another jump, possibly pushing the first-weekend total beyond ₹8 crore if family audiences turn up. Advance bookings for Monday remain healthy in multiplex chains like PVR-Inox and Cinepolis, bolstered by no major releases until mid-November.

With a modest ₹25 crore budget, Haq is already on track for profitability through theatricals alone, augmented by satellite and OTT deals. Industry trackers predict a ₹15-18 crore first week if momentum is sustained, marking a much-needed commercial win for mid-budget Hindi cinema tackling bold socio-legal themes.

As Haq gains traction for sparking conversations on women’s rights within Islamic personal law, its box-office resilience underscores audience appetite for content-driven films over star-driven spectacles, setting a promising template for similar projects in Bollywood’s evolving landscape.
