Farah Khan Shares Honest Reflection on Early Fights With Husband Shirish Kunder

Farah Khan recalls early marriage fights with Shirish Kunder, revealing how social snubs and industry attention made him uncomfortable.

Filmmaker-choreographer Farah Khan has candidly revealed the early turbulence in her 21-year marriage to editor-director Shirish Kunder, citing social snubs at Bollywood gatherings as a major trigger for heated arguments. Appearing on tennis star Sania Mirza’s podcast Serving It Up With Sania on November 13, 2025, the 60-year-old director of Om Shanti Om admitted she used to “force” her introverted husband to accompany her to parties, only for guests to ignore him entirely while gravitating toward her as the more successful partner. “Not just the industry, the world is full of a****es,” she declared, explaining that people would “hone in on the person who is more successful at that point” and leave Shirish isolated.

The couple met in 2003 on the sets of Farah’s debut film, Main Hoon Na, where Shirish served as editor. Their whirlwind romance culminated in marriage in December 2004, followed by the IVF birth of triplets—Czar, Diva, and Anya—in 2008. Despite professional synergy on projects like Jaan-E-Mann and Tees Maar Khan, their social incompatibility surfaced early. “We used to have a lot of fights,” Farah confessed, recalling how Shirish’s discomfort escalated when attendees bypassed him for selfies and small talk with her. The turning point came when they mutually agreed he could opt out of events that drained him, prioritising his peace over performative coupledom.

Farah emphasised that their bond thrives on security, not public displays. “We know we are secure in our marriage, and we don’t need to hold hands on the red carpet,” she said, adding a cheeky observation: “Sometimes, I feel that the more people are holding hands on the red carpet, something is brewing.” The couple’s deliberate privacy extends to social media, where Farah rarely posts family photos, shielding their life from the gossip mill that often amplifies marital discord in showbiz.

This revelation arrives amid broader conversations about mental health and partnership dynamics in Bollywood, where power imbalances can strain relationships. Farah’s career—spanning choreography for over 100 songs and direction of blockbusters grossing Rs 500 crore globally—contrasts with Shirish’s lower-profile editing and directorial work, including the 2016 children’s film Joker. Yet, their enduring collaboration and low-key companionship offer a counter-narrative to high-profile splits, proving that mutual respect can outlast fame’s glare.

As the podcast episode trends, Farah’s humour-laced honesty resonates with fans and peers alike, reinforcing a simple truth: genuine relationships don’t require validation from flashbulbs. For a couple that began with a cutting-room spark, their story underscores that sometimes the strongest partnerships are the quietest ones.
