Batwara 1947 Faces Box Office Struggle As Awarapan 2 Maintains Its Winning Run

Batwara 1947 trails Awarapan 2 at box-office.

Batwara 1947, starring Sunny Deol and Shabana Azmi, continued to face a challenging run at the box office on Day 5 as the Partition drama struggled to approach the ₹50 crore mark. Despite receiving appreciation for its performances and emotional subject, the film has found it difficult to sustain audience momentum in theatres. The movie is also facing strong competition from Emraan Hashmi's Awarapan 2, which has emerged as a major draw during the same period.

The film, centred on the Partition of India, had generated interest because of its subject and the presence of established actors including Deol and Azmi. Their performances have been praised by viewers and several public figures, but the positive response has not translated into the kind of theatrical turnout required for a stronger box-office run. The film's collections have remained under pressure as it attempts to attract audiences during the crucial opening days of its release.

On its fifth day, Batwara 1947 registered a slight improvement compared with the decline witnessed after its first Sunday. However, the increase was not substantial enough to significantly alter the film's overall box-office trajectory. The movie continues to remain short of the ₹50 crore milestone, with its performance indicating that the emotional appeal of its subject and the presence of a well-known cast have not been sufficient to overcome the challenges facing its theatrical run.

One of the major factors affecting the film's performance is competition from Awarapan 2. The Emraan Hashmi-led film has been attracting audiences and has created a strong theatrical presence, making it more difficult for Batwara 1947 to maintain momentum. With audiences having multiple options at the box office, the Partition drama has struggled to convert critical appreciation and interest in its performances into sustained ticket sales.

Sunny Deol's presence had been expected to provide a strong pull at the box office, particularly following his successful theatrical comeback with Gadar 2. Shabana Azmi's involvement also added considerable acting credibility to the project. The performances have received praise, including appreciation from Hema Malini, who described the film as brilliant and highlighted the work of its lead actors. Despite this positive response, audience footfall has remained below expectations. The film's Day 5 performance therefore leaves its immediate box-office prospects uncertain.

A sustained improvement in weekday collections would be important if Batwara 1947 is to build momentum and move closer to the ₹50 crore milestone. However, the continued presence of Awarapan 2 and the film's relatively slow start have made that target increasingly difficult. For now, Batwara 1947 remains a film whose performances have generated appreciation but whose theatrical business has not matched the expectations associated with its cast and subject. The coming days will determine whether the film can benefit from stronger word of mouth and stabilise its collections or continue to lose ground amid competition from other releases.
