'Awarapan 2' Nears ₹92 Crore Despite Sharp Monday Drop As Collections Lose Momentum

Awarapan 2 crosses ₹91 crore despite Monday.

Awarapan 2, starring Emraan Hashmi, continued its strong theatrical run on its first Monday despite registering a sharp drop in daily collections. The sequel, which was released in cinemas on August 14, has crossed the ₹90 crore net mark in India within four days, taking its reported total beyond ₹91 crore. The film opened alongside Sunny Deol's Batwara 1947 and has emerged as the stronger performer in the early stages of the box office clash.

The film benefited from a strong opening weekend, with audiences turning up in significant numbers following its release. The sequel's performance during its first three days gave it a substantial cushion before the start of the working week. By the end of Monday, Awarapan 2 had added enough to its domestic total to move past the ₹91 crore milestone, keeping it on course for a strong first week if it can maintain reasonable weekday occupancy.

However, Monday also brought a sizeable correction in the film's daily earnings. Awarapan 2 recorded an estimated 64 per cent drop compared with its Sunday collection. Such a decline is generally expected when a film moves from a high-performing opening weekend into regular weekdays, when theatrical footfall can fall as audiences return to work and other routine commitments. Despite the reduction, the film's cumulative performance remained strong because of the momentum it had built during the first weekend.

The early numbers have also placed Awarapan 2 ahead in its box office competition with Batwara 1947. The two films arrived in theatres on the same day, creating a direct contest for audiences and screens. While Sunny Deol's film has generated interest of its own, Awarapan 2 has taken the lead in reported domestic earnings during the first four days. The comparison will become clearer as both films progress through the weekdays and approach their second weekend.

For Awarapan 2, the immediate challenge will be to prevent the Monday decline from becoming a sustained weekday slide. The first Monday is an important indicator of how much of a film's opening-weekend audience can be converted into regular weekday viewers. If the sequel manages to maintain collections at a stable level over the next few days, it could finish its opening week with a substantial domestic total and enter its second weekend with considerable momentum.

The film's early performance also gives Emraan Hashmi another significant theatrical release at a time when audience response and sustained box office numbers remain crucial measures of a film's success. The sequel has managed to turn its opening into a ₹91 crore-plus run in only four days, even after the considerable Monday drop. Its established title, lead actor and opening-weekend momentum have helped it make a strong start at the ticket window.

With Awarapan 2 now past the ₹91 crore mark, attention will shift to its Tuesday and subsequent weekday collections. The film's ability to hold audiences during the remainder of its first week will determine whether it can convert its strong opening into a longer theatrical run. The second weekend will provide another opportunity for growth, particularly if word of mouth remains favourable. For now, the sequel has secured an early advantage over Batwara 1947 and delivered a strong four-day opening despite the substantial first-Monday correction.
