Authorities Grant Weapons License to Disha Patani’s Father After Violent Gang Attack

Retired Deputy Superintendent of Police Jagadish Patani, father of Bollywood actor Disha Patani, has been granted a firearm licence by the Bareilly district administration, providing him with enhanced personal security following a brazen shooting incident at the family's ancestral home. The approval, confirmed by District Magistrate Avnish Singh to PTI on November 16, 2025, comes after Jagadish formally applied for the licence in the wake of the September 11-12 attack, citing ongoing threats to his family's safety.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had previously assured the Patanis of robust protection, and enhanced security measures remain in place at their residence in Bareilly's Civil Lines area. This development underscores the government's commitment to safeguarding public figures and their families amid rising gangster activities in the region.

The attack unfolded in the early hours of September 12, when two unidentified assailants on a motorcycle fired approximately 8-10 rounds of ammunition—believed to be foreign-made—outside the Patani home, shattering the morning calm but causing no injuries. At the time, family members, including Jagadish, his wife Padma, and daughter Khushboo Patani, a former army officer, were inside the house. CCTV footage and forensic analysis aided the investigation, leading to a swift police response.

A case was registered at Kotwali police station, and five specialised teams were deployed to track the perpetrators. The incident drew widespread condemnation, highlighting vulnerabilities even for families with law enforcement backgrounds in Uttar Pradesh, where organised crime networks have increasingly targeted high-profile individuals.

The Rohit Godara-Goldy Brar gang, notorious Canada- and UK-based operatives linked to multiple high-profile crimes, including the 2022 murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala, swiftly claimed responsibility via a Facebook post. The gang alleged the firing was retaliation for remarks made by Khushboo Patani criticising spiritual leaders Sant Premanand Maharaj of Vrindavan and storyteller Aniruddhacharya Maharaj, particularly regarding comments on women and live-in relationships.

This echoed an earlier August social media threat from the group against those disrespecting Premanand Maharaj. Goldy Brar, a key figure in the Lawrence Bishnoi syndicate, and Rohit Godara remain fugitives abroad, with their networks under constant surveillance by Indian authorities. The motive adds a layer of communal tension to the case, prompting alerts across the Godara-Brar ecosystem.

Just five days later, on September 17, a joint operation by Uttar Pradesh's Special Task Force (STF), Haryana STF, and Delhi Police resulted in an encounter in Ghaziabad's Tronica City, where the two suspects—Ravindra from Rohtak, a history-sheeter with multiple cases, and Arun from Sonipat—were neutralised. Authorities recovered Glock and Zigana pistols along with live cartridges, confirming their affiliation with the gang. The case has since been transferred to the Crime Branch for further probe.

Meanwhile, Disha Patani, who was not present during the incident, continues her prolific career with recent roles in the 2024 blockbusters Yodha, Kalki 2898 AD, and Kanguva, alongside her Netflix debut in The Ba**ds of Bollywood* and upcoming projects like the Hollywood venture Holiguards Saga—The Portal of Force and Welcome to the Jungle. The family's resilience amid such threats serves as a stark reminder of the intersection between celebrity, crime, and public safety in India.
