Anushka Sharma Says She and Virat Kohli Put Spirituality First, Careers Second
Anushka Sharma reveals she and Virat Kohli prioritise spirituality over fame and professional success.
Actor Anushka Sharma has spoken candidly about her relationship with cricketer Virat Kohli, revealing that the couple prefers to lead a grounded and spiritually oriented life despite their immense fame. In a conversation with film critic Anupama Chopra, Anushka shared insights into how the two navigate their high-profile careers while staying detached from materialistic pursuits. She explained that both of them consciously avoid getting too attached to their professional identities and instead focus on maintaining balance and inner peace.
During the discussion, Anushka reflected on the nature of their relationship, saying the couple does not view themselves as separate personalities defined by their respective industries. Instead, she described them as deeply aligned individuals who share similar values and perspectives. According to Anushka, their bond is built on simplicity, mutual understanding, and a shared spiritual outlook that shapes how they approach both life and work.
Anushka also addressed the widely used label of “power couple,” often associated with the pair due to their influence in Bollywood and international cricket. She clarified that the term does not resonate with how they see themselves. In her view, if the relationship began to revolve around status or public perception, it would undermine the authentic foundation on which their partnership is built.

The actor further admitted that both she and Virat sometimes feel uncomfortable with the level of fame they receive. Rather than embracing celebrity culture, she said they often prefer stepping away from the spotlight and spending time in private. Anushka noted that the couple occasionally withdraws into what she described as their “own cocoon,” allowing them to reconnect with themselves and maintain emotional balance amid demanding careers.
Psychologist Srishti Vatsa weighed in on the topic, explaining that maintaining humility and emotional clarity is particularly important for individuals working in high-pressure environments. According to Vatsa, success can easily lead to arrogance if not balanced with self-awareness, while failure can trigger negative self-perception. She emphasized that strong relationships and grounded perspectives help individuals handle both extremes more effectively.
Anushka echoed this perspective while describing how she and Kohli approach praise and criticism. She said she does not become overly affected when someone praises her performance or when a film does not perform well at the box office. For the couple, professional achievements are only one aspect of life, while their spiritual outlook remains central. Anushka concluded by saying that their professions are simply what they do, whereas their deeper focus lies in living a meaningful and balanced life.
