Alia Bhatt's Alpha Struggles At Box Office, Remains Below ₹50 Crore After Six Days
Alpha slows further, remains below ₹50 crore earnings.
Alpha, the latest release from Yash Raj Films’ (YRF) Spy Universe, continued to face challenges at the box office on its sixth day, with collections slowing down after an inconsistent opening week. Starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari in lead roles, the spy thriller has struggled to maintain momentum after a promising start and is yet to cross the ₹50 crore mark in domestic net collections. The film opened on a positive note, recording a decent performance during its first weekend. Alpha earned around ₹34 crore net in India during its opening weekend, creating expectations that the film could sustain a strong theatrical run.
However, the movie witnessed a sharp decline on its first Monday, with collections dropping by nearly 70 per cent to approximately ₹3.85 crore net, raising concerns about its ability to hold audience interest during weekdays. The film briefly showed signs of recovery on Tuesday, when its collections improved by around 10 per cent compared with Monday. The increase had led trade observers to believe that the movie might regain momentum and build towards a stronger second week. However, those expectations were short-lived as the film once again witnessed a drop on Wednesday.
According to trade estimates, Alpha collected around ₹2.85 crore net in India on Day 6, registering a decline of nearly 30 per cent from the previous day. With this addition, the film’s total domestic net collection has moved slightly above ₹44 crore. The fluctuating daily numbers have made its first-week performance uncertain, with the film now facing a challenging path ahead. The performance has also placed Alpha behind the benchmarks set by Alia Bhatt’s previous successful films such as Raazi and Gangubai Kathiawadi, which had achieved stronger box office trajectories during their theatrical runs.

Industry observers suggest that the film may find it difficult to cross the ₹50 crore milestone before completing its first week, unless there is a significant improvement in audience turnout. Trade analysts have indicated that Alpha needs to achieve substantial numbers in the coming weeks to become financially successful. Reports suggest that the film would need to cross around ₹100 crore net domestically and approximately ₹150 crore in worldwide gross collections to reach the break-even point. Achieving those targets will depend heavily on audience response during the second weekend and the film’s ability to maintain screen availability.
Adding to the challenge is the release of the multi-starrer comedy Dhamaal 4, which is expected to compete for screens and audience attention. The new release could reduce the number of shows available for Alpha, limiting its opportunity to recover at the box office. Despite the slowdown, Alpha remains a significant release for YRF’s Spy Universe as it marks one of the franchise’s first female-led action ventures. The film’s long-term performance will depend on whether positive word-of-mouth can translate into stronger weekend collections. For now, the spy thriller faces an uphill task as it attempts to stabilise its box office run and move closer to profitability.
