Akshay Kumar To Star In 'Samuk,' India’s Biggest Alien Action Thriller Set For 2027

Akshay Kumar joins Samuk, India’s large-scale alien action thriller film.

Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar is set to headline a major new sci-fi project titled Samuk, marking his entry into the alien action genre with what is being described as one of India’s biggest international-style survival thriller films. The project has been announced by producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah and is co-produced by Aashin A Shah, with a planned theatrical release in 2027.

The film, directed by Kanishk Varma, is being positioned as a large-scale alien action spectacle that blends survival horror with science fiction elements. According to the makers, Samuk aims to present an Indian cinematic experience built around high-end visual effects, practical creature design, and international-standard world-building, taking inspiration from global sci-fi and horror franchises.

Akshay expressed excitement about working on a new genre, stating that the script offered a unique and challenging concept compared to his previous work. He described the alien thriller space as relatively unexplored in Indian cinema and said he was eager to bring something fresh to audiences through this ambitious project.

Director Kanishk Varma said the idea for Samuk was inspired by his interest in elite security forces and classic survival films such as Alien and Predator. He added that the film aims to create a realistic on-set creature experience using practical effects, emphasising physical realism over purely digital creation to enhance the horror and survival elements of the story.

The production has also brought on board an international technical team to elevate the film’s scale and execution. Noted Hollywood creature effects designer Alec Gillis will be responsible for designing the alien creature, while British stunt coordinator Luke Tumber will oversee action sequences. The involvement of global talent highlights the makers’ ambition to position Samuk as a crossover project aimed at both Indian and international audiences.
