Akshay Kumar on Dhurandhar 2: Ranveer Singh's Angry Young Man Era is Back

Akshay Kumar praised Ranveer's raw action image while addressing Dhurandhar regret honestly.

Bollywood Superstar Akshay Kumar recently praised Ranveer Singh’s performance in the action-packed film Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge, the highly anticipated sequel following the record-breaking success of the original Dhurandhar. Speaking at a public event, Akshay highlighted the evolving nature of hero personas in Hindi cinema, noting how audience preferences cycle over time between socially themed films and full-fledged action entertainers. He described Ranveer's portrayal as a confident and intense "angry young man" avatar that harkens back to a style largely absent in recent years.

Akshay emphasized the film’s high-octane action and intense sequences, stating that the audience has responded enthusiastically to Ranveer's performance. "Take a movie like Dhurandhar. It is a complete action film. The whole movie is filled with action and bloodshed. It’s great. People have lapped it up; they have enjoyed it," he said. He lauded Ranveer for fully embracing the action hero persona, performing stunts with pride and skill that captivated viewers across demographics.

Reflecting on trends in Hindi cinema, Akshay noted that the "angry young man" archetype had briefly receded during the era of social films. He cited his own work in socially themed projects such as Toilet: Ek Prem Katha and Padman, which were successful but focused on social messaging rather than intense action. He explained that cinematic trends naturally evolve, with heroes adapting to the changing expectations and tastes of audiences over time.

When asked whether he regretted not being part of Dhurandhar, Akshay responded candidly, noting that while he could have fit the action-oriented role, the film’s director, Aditya, chose otherwise. "But then I don’t think that Aditya thought that. I didn’t get it," he remarked. Akshay stressed that such decisions are part of the industry’s dynamics and emphasized that actors often reflect on roles they might have taken without harboring resentment.

Akshay also discussed the mutual admiration and respect among actors in Bollywood. He shared anecdotes of conversations with Ranveer, in which Ranveer expressed appreciation for some of Akshay’s earlier performances, wishing he had been part of them. Akshay pointed out that with 15 to 20 prominent actors and around 180 Hindi films produced annually, there is naturally a distribution of roles, and feelings of regret are usually limited to the fleeting sense of missed opportunity rather than jealousy.

He concluded by emphasizing professionalism and camaraderie in the industry, stating that while actors may wish they had played certain iconic roles, the focus remains on future projects and creative opportunities. Akshay Kumar’s comments underline both admiration for Ranveer Singh’s current work and the healthy perspective he maintains on career choices, highlighting the dynamic and collaborative spirit that defines contemporary Bollywood filmmaking.
