The 16th Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) launched with vibrant enthusiasm, graced by Bollywood icon Aamir Khan as the chief guest. The opening ceremony welcomed luminaries including Vir Das, Tillotama Shome, Jim Sarbh, Aditi Rao Hydari, filmmakers Shoojit Sircar, Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, Tanushree Das, R.S. Prasanna, and casting director Mukesh Chhabra, marking a spectacular start to the 11-day event running through August 24.

The festival opened with the highly anticipated screening of Vir Das’s Baksho Bondi, setting the tone for a celebration of cinematic excellence. Aamir Khan expressed his delight, stating, “It’s a great initiative that brings people and cultures together. The films and filmmakers at IFFM will have an unforgettable experience.” His presence underscored the festival’s role in fostering cross-cultural connections through cinema.

Festival director Mitu Bhowmik Lange emphasized IFFM’s significance, noting, “This is a meeting point for incredible stories, extraordinary talent, and a shared passion for cinema that transcends borders.” Supported by the Victorian Government, the festival strengthens India-Australia ties, showcasing diverse Indian films and talent. The 2025 edition promises a rich program, cementing IFFM’s status as a global platform for cultural exchange and cinematic innovation.
