The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) has named Bollywood icon Aamir Khan as the chief guest for its 16th edition, set for August 14–24, 2025. The festival will feature a retrospective celebrating Khan’s illustrious career and a special screening of his latest film, Sitaare Zameen Par, followed by a discussion with Khan, director RS Prasanna, and Aparna Purohit, CEO of Aamir Khan Films.
Sitaare Zameen Par, where Khan plays a basketball coach mentoring neurodivergent adults, underscores his commitment to socially impactful storytelling. “I’m humbled to join IFFM, a festival that celebrates Indian cinema’s diversity. Sitaare Zameen Par embraces inclusivity with sensitivity, and I’m excited to share this journey with Melbourne’s audiences,” Khan said.
The retrospective will showcase Khan’s films known for their bold, socially conscious narratives, highlighting his influence on Indian cinema. Festival director Mitu Bhowmick Lange praised Khan as “a cinematic legend whose work reflects sensitivity and a fearless commitment to storytelling.” She added, “His presence will elevate the festival, and Sitaare Zameen Par exemplifies inclusive storytelling filled with empathy and joy.”
