Mahindra Scorpio Pikup: A New Toyota Hilux Rival Debuts Tomorrow

Mahindra Scorpio Pikup debuts tomorrow, rivalling the Toyota Hilux.

Mahindra is set to globally unveil the production-spec Scorpio Pikup on August 14, marking the company’s entry into the premium lifestyle pickup segment. Inspired by the Global Pik Up concept showcased in 2023, the new model is expected to compete with established rivals such as the Toyota Hilux.

The production version retains the rugged character associated with the Scorpio family but gets a distinct pickup-specific design rather than simply being a Scorpio N converted into a truck. Mahindra’s latest teaser shows a double-cab body with a large cargo bed, slim LED headlamps, L-shaped daytime running lights and vertically stacked LED fog lamps. The upright grille features a hexagonal pattern and Mahindra branding, while a camera positioned below the logo suggests the availability of a 360-degree camera system.

At the rear, the Scorpio Pikup gets C-shaped LED tail-lights, large Mahindra lettering across the tailgate and newly designed alloy wheels. The pickup’s sizeable proportions are intended to give it a more imposing road presence while retaining the utility expected from a lifestyle pickup. Inside, Mahindra appears to be targeting a more premium experience, with a large portrait-oriented touchscreen, digital instrument cluster and three-spoke steering wheel. The cabin also features rotary controls for dual-zone climate control and a dedicated drive-mode selector.

The Scorpio Pikup will be based on the Scorpio N platform, although Mahindra has stretched its wheelbase to accommodate the larger cargo bed. The longer wheelbase should help differentiate the pickup from the SUV while potentially improving stability and load-carrying practicality. The production model is expected to feature a double-cab configuration, while a more utilitarian commercial version could be introduced at a later stage.

Mahindra has not yet confirmed the final engine specifications, but the Scorpio Pikup is expected to use the company’s mHawk diesel engine and could be offered with six-speed manual and automatic transmissions. Four-wheel drive is also expected to be a major part of the package, with the model likely to feature selectable driving modes designed for conditions including Normal, Grass-Gravel-Snow, Mud-Rut and Sand. Several features could also be borrowed from the Scorpio N, including Level 2 ADAS, wireless smartphone connectivity, wireless charging, ventilated and powered front seats and driver drowsiness detection.

The global debut on August 14 is expected to reveal the Scorpio Pikup’s final engine specifications, dimensions, variants and market availability. The launch will put Mahindra directly into competition with lifestyle pickups such as the Toyota Hilux, while the company is also preparing to launch the BE 6 Sporteq on August 15.
