Why India's Celebrities Are Choosing Luxury MPVs Over Premium SUVs for Daily Travel

From the Lexus LM to the MG M9, these luxury MPVs offer Bollywood and celebrity-level travel comfort.

Luxury multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs) are increasingly becoming the preferred mode of travel for celebrities and high-profile individuals in India, thanks to their spacious interiors, premium features, and superior ride comfort. Unlike traditional SUVs, luxury MPVs focus on rear-seat luxury and are often designed for chauffeur-driven travel, making them ideal for long-distance journeys and business commutes. Several global automakers now offer high-end MPVs in the Indian market, combining cutting-edge technology with opulent interiors.

One of the most prominent models in this segment is the Lexus LM 350h, which is priced at around ₹2.15 crore (ex-showroom). The luxury MPV has gained popularity among celebrities including Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Janhvi Kapoor, and Hardik Pandya. The model offers both four-seat and seven-seat configurations, with the premium four-seater variant featuring a partition with dimmable glass, a 48-inch entertainment screen, reclining seats, a refrigerator, and a 23-speaker sound system. It is powered by a 2.5-litre four-cylinder self-charging hybrid engine paired with an eCVT gearbox, delivering a combined output of around 250 hp.

Another widely recognised option is the Toyota Vellfire, which is priced at about ₹1.19 crore (ex-showroom). Built on a platform shared with the Lexus LM, the Vellfire offers a spacious cabin and premium comfort features such as powered sliding doors and advanced infotainment systems. Several well-known personalities, including Abhishek Bachchan, Bhumi Pednekar, Anil Kapoor, Ajay Devgn, and Aamir Khan, are known to own the model. The vehicle is powered by a 2.5-litre petrol-hybrid engine designed to deliver both performance and efficiency.

For buyers looking for a comparatively more affordable luxury MPV, the Kia Carnival offers premium features at a lower price point of around ₹59.42 lakh (ex-showroom). The vehicle has been relaunched in India with a 2.2-litre diesel engine producing 193 hp and 441 Nm of torque. It comes equipped with powered relaxation seats, ventilation functions, extended leg support, and several comfort-orientated features aimed at enhancing passenger experience during long journeys.

Another premium option is the Mercedes‑Benz V‑Class, which starts at approximately ₹1.4 crore (ex-showroom). The luxury MPV combines the engineering of Mercedes‑Benz with the practicality of a multi-purpose vehicle. Buyers can choose between a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine producing 237 hp or a petrol variant generating 231 hp with mild-hybrid assistance. Both versions are paired with a nine-speed torque-converter automatic transmission designed to deliver smooth performance and refined driving dynamics.

Meanwhile, the MG M9 stands out as an all-electric luxury MPV option. Priced at about ₹70.90 lakh, the model is powered by a 90 kWh battery pack that delivers a claimed driving range of around 548 kilometres and produces approximately 245 hp. The vehicle features massaging seats, a yacht-style panoramic sunroof, and other high-end comfort features. Notable personalities such as KL Rahul, Ashneer Grover, Shankar Mahadevan, Hema Malini, and Krushna Abhishek are among those associated with the vehicle.
