Tata Sierra Scores 5-Star Bharat NCAP Rating With Near-Perfect Adult Safety Score

The Tata Sierra earns a five-star Bharat NCAP rating with outstanding adult and child safety scores.

The Tata Sierra has secured a top 5-star safety rating under the Bharat NCAP crash test programme, reinforcing Tata Motors’ strong reputation for building safe passenger vehicles. The SUV scored an impressive 31.14 out of 32 in adult occupant protection and 44.73 out of 49 in child occupant safety.

In the adult occupant protection tests, the Sierra delivered near-perfect results. During the frontal offset deformable barrier test, it scored 15.14 out of 16. The driver received ‘good’ protection ratings for most critical areas such as the head, neck, pelvis, thighs, and feet, while the chest and tibia were rated ‘adequate’. For the co-driver, protection levels were largely ‘good’, with only the right tibia marked as ‘adequate’.

The SUV also performed strongly in side impact assessments, including both movable deformable barrier and side pole tests. Protection for the head, chest, abdomen, and pelvis remained consistently ‘good’, though the overall side pole impact test rating was marked as ‘OK’.

In child occupant protection, the Sierra scored 44.73 out of 49, reflecting strong safety for younger passengers. The evaluation included dynamic crash performance, child restraint system (CRS) installation, and vehicle assessment. The 18-month-old dummy scored 7.73 out of 8 in frontal impact, while the 3-year-old dummy achieved a full 8 out of 8. Both secured perfect 4 out of 4 scores in side-impact tests.

The SUV earned 23.73 out of 24 in dynamic assessment and a full 12 out of 12 in CRS installation, indicating excellent compatibility with child seats, with only a minor deduction in overall vehicle assessment.

On the safety features front, the Tata Sierra comes equipped with six airbags, ABS with EBD, traction control, rear parking sensors, and all-wheel disc brakes as standard. Higher variants add advanced features such as a 360-degree camera, level 2 ADAS, blind spot monitoring, and an auto-dimming IRVM.

The SUV is offered with multiple engine options, including a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol; a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol producing around 160 hp and 255 Nm; and a 1.5-litre diesel engine focused on efficiency and torque. Priced between ₹11.49 lakh and ₹21.29 lakh (ex-showroom), the Tata Sierra competes with rivals like the Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster in the mid-size SUV segment.
