Tata Motors Unveils All-New Sierra SUV: Retro Charm Meets Modern Power
Tata Motors revives the iconic Sierra with a modern redesign and powerful new engine options.
Tata Motors has brought back one of its most beloved SUVs from the 1990s – the Tata Sierra – giving it a modern identity while retaining the nostalgia that made it iconic. Officially dubbed the “rebirth of a legend,” the new Tata Sierra was launched with an introductory ex-showroom price of Rs 11.49 lakh. Bookings open on December 16, 2025, with deliveries starting January 15, 2026.
Reintroduced after more than two decades, the Sierra carries design inspiration from the original model, blending its signature glasshouse silhouette with contemporary, muscular proportions. Unveiled earlier at the Bharat Mobility Expo, the SUV has been offered in six distinct colours — Bengal Rouge, Coorg Clouds, Munnar Mist, Pristine White, Pure Grey, and Andaman Adventure — aimed at evoking an adventurous and premium appeal.
Under the hood, the all-new Sierra comes with multiple Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) options. It is powered by Tata’s 1.5-litre TGDi Hyperion turbo-petrol engine, delivering 170 PS and 280 Nm torque. Buyers can also choose between the 1.5-litre TGDi NA and the 1.5-litre Kryo.Jet diesel engine variants. The model offers both 6-speed manual and 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) choices. While the ICE version features front-wheel drive, the Sierra EV variant, expected later, will use Tata’s acti.ev platform with dual-motor AWD capabilities similar to the Harrier EV.

Inside, the Sierra redefines comfort with a lounge-like interior infused with premium materials and advanced features. The SUV includes a panoramic sunroof reminiscent of the classic model, powered and ventilated front seats, a Dolby Atmos sound system, and dual-zone automatic climate control. It also becomes the first ICE car in India to feature inbuilt 5G connectivity. Safety remains a strong focus, with six airbags, Isofix tethers, and new additions like seatbelt anchor pre-tensioners, extendable sun visors, auxiliary tail lamps, and India’s slimmest taillamps. Tata even performed a unique real-life Sierra-versus-Sierra crash test, resulting in what it calls “beyond 5-star” safety compliance.
At the launch, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles MD and CEO Shailesh Chandra said, “Premiumisation is at the heart of the Sierra experience.” With its unique mix of heritage design and futuristic technology, the Tata Sierra is set to challenge rivals in the SUV segment while appealing to both nostalgic enthusiasts and next-generation buyers.
