Maruti Suzuki Hustler Micro-SUV Likely To Enter India As Ignis Successor

Maruti Suzuki Hustler may replace Ignis in India, offering compact design, AWD option, and high efficiency.

Maruti Suzuki is reportedly testing multiple new vehicles for the Indian market, with the Suzuki Hustler emerging as a strong contender for launch. The micro-SUV, already sold in international markets, has been spotted undergoing testing in India several times. Interest in the model has grown further amid speculation that the Maruti Suzuki Ignis may be discontinued, positioning the Hustler as its potential successor.

The Hustler follows Suzuki’s Kei car design philosophy, featuring a compact yet tall and boxy stance. It comes with a short wheelbase of around 2,425 mm and overall dimensions of approximately 3,395 mm in length and 1,475 mm in width. While these proportions make it smaller than most Indian hatchbacks and SUVs, they also enhance its suitability for congested urban environments where easy manoeuvrability is important.

In terms of styling, the Hustler features crossover-inspired elements such as roof rails, body cladding, a flat bonnet, and a squared-off front profile. Its design language shares similarities with models like the Suzuki Jimny, giving it a rugged yet quirky appearance. Inside, the cabin is expected to focus on practicality, offering a simple layout with an instrument cluster, infotainment system, and flexible seating that can be folded to maximise cargo space.

The interior design is also expected to include customizable themes, with reports suggesting colour options such as khaki and orange. This flexible approach to cabin space is aimed at urban users who may prioritise adaptability over luxury features. The compact dimensions further support its role as a city-friendly vehicle, especially for short commutes and tight parking conditions.

On the mechanical side, the Hustler is expected to feature Suzuki’s 660 cc engine lineup, including a naturally aspirated version producing around 48 hp and a turbocharged variant delivering up to 64 hp. Both engines are likely to be paired with a CVT gearbox. The model is also reported to offer an all-wheel-drive (AWD) option, which is unusual in this segment and could enhance its versatility.

Fuel efficiency is expected to be a key highlight, with claims of up to 26.4 kmpl under ideal conditions. Overall, the Hustler is positioned as a compact, efficient, and flexible micro-SUV. If launched in India, it could appeal to urban buyers looking for a small yet practical alternative in the entry-level SUV space, potentially filling the gap left by the Ignis.
