Mahindra Launches XEV 9S: Prices, Variants, Features and Battery Options Explained
Mahindra launches the XUV 9S seven-seater EV with three battery options, premium features, advanced safety, and a spacious cabin.
Mahindra & Mahindra launched the XUV 9S, India’s first ground-up born-electric seven-seater SUV, on Wednesday at a blockbuster starting price of Rs 19.95 lakh (ex-showroom), undercutting most expectations and positioning it as a direct rival to premium ICE SUVs like the Toyota Fortuner and MG Gloster. Built on the INGLO modular EV platform co-developed with Volkswagen, the XEV 9S will be available in six variants with three battery options—59 kWh, 70 kWh, and 79 kWh—delivering peak power from 170 kW to 210 kW. Bookings open on January 14, 2026, with deliveries commencing January 23.
The flagship 79 kWh variant promises a claimed range exceeding 650 km (MIDC cycle), while the entry-level 59 kWh pack still offers over 500 km, making it one of the longest-range seven-seater EVs on sale globally. All versions support ultra-fast charging (200+ kW DC), capable of adding 200 km in under 10 minutes. The top-spec Pack Three Above variant, priced at Rs 29.45 lakh, is loaded with Level 2+ ADAS (five radars + one vision camera), seven airbags, Driver Drowsiness Detection with eye-tracking, and Secure360 Pro with live communication.
Design-wise, the XEV 9S sports a futuristic “electric-origin” silhouette: blanked grille, full-width LED light bar, vertically stacked projectors, flush door handles, and 20-inch aero alloys. Inside, it claims best-in-segment space with 4,076 liters across the first two rows, a 527-liter boot, and a class-leading 150-liter frunk. The second row gets ventilated “Boss Mode” powered seats with slide/recline, individual sunshades, and acoustic laminated glass, while the third row offers 50:50 split-folding for flexibility.

Tech highlights include triple 31.24 cm screens (driver, infotainment, and co-driver), a 16-speaker Harman Kardon system with Dolby Atmos, 5G connectivity, Bring-Your-Own-Device integration, three-zone climate control with Camp Mode, and “LiveYourMood” ambient lighting with three themes. A fold-out lounge desk and translucent door inserts add premium flair.
Mahindra is positioning the XEV 9S as a luxury family hauler that combines zero-emission performance with traditional big-SUV presence, directly challenging the perception that electric seven-seaters must compromise on space or features. With prices ranging from Rs 19.95 lakh to Rs 29.45 lakh (ex-showroom), it undercuts rivals like the BYD eMAX 7 and upcoming Kia EV9 by a significant margin, potentially disrupting the premium SUV segment even before Tesla’s anticipated India entry.
