Stellantis India has begun exporting the Citroën Basalt SUV coupe, marking a significant milestone in the company’s global manufacturing strategy. The first shipment of the made-in-India model has been dispatched from the company’s production facility in Chennai to South Africa, strengthening India’s position as a key export hub for the automotive giant.
With this latest consignment, the total number of Citroën vehicles exported from India to South Africa has crossed the 10,000-unit mark, highlighting the steady growth in international demand for India-produced vehicles. The move reflects Stellantis India’s expanding export footprint and its focus on integrating Indian manufacturing into global supply chains.
The Citroën Basalt is built on Stellantis’ Smart Car platform, which has been conceived, developed, and industrialised in India by local engineering and research teams. The platform is designed to cater to both domestic and international markets, showcasing India’s increasing role in high-value automotive design and development within the global Stellantis ecosystem.
