KTM 390 Adventure R Launched at ₹3.78 Lakh; Cheaper Than Adventure S

KTM unveils 390 Adventure R in India at ₹3.78 lakh, undercutting the standard model.

KTM India unveiled the 390 Adventure R on January 28, 2026, priced at Rs 3.78 lakh (ex-showroom), making it Rs 19,000 cheaper than the 390 Adventure S at Rs 3.97 lakh. The savings stem from tube-type spoke wheels versus tubeless ones, while borrowing from the export Enduro R variant. This entry bolsters KTM's lineup alongside the standard Adventure, R, and new X models, targeting budget-conscious adventure riders amid rising competition from Royal Enfield Himalayan 450.

The R's standout feature is its WP Apex suspension with 230mm travel front and rear—30mm more than the S's 200/205mm—delivering superior damping for rough trails. Adjustable preload and rebound enhance control, ideal for gravel, mud, or rocky paths where the standard model falters. Riders praise its plush ride over potholes, positioning it as a true dual-sport contender in India's diverse terrains.

Wheel setup screams off-road: 21-inch front and 18-inch rear (vs S's 21/17-inch) shod with tubed Mitas Enduro Trail knobby tires for aggressive grip. This contrasts the S's tubeless Apollo Tramplr tires suited for highways. The larger rear wheel improves stability at speed and traction in dirt, though it demands careful road use to avoid punctures.

Dimensions elevate capability: 870mm seat height (up 20mm from S) and 272mm ground clearance (vs 255mm) enable bolder adventures. Weighing 172kg kerb (similar to S), it retains agility. These tweaks make it perfect for enduro enthusiasts, though taller riders may need adjustments for accessibility.

Tech mirrors the S: ride-by-wire throttle, switchable traction control, cornering ABS, four ride modes (Street, Rain, Offroad, Rally), TFT display with connectivity, and quickshifter. No changes here keep costs down while maintaining segment-leading features against rivals like BMW G 310 GS.

The unchanged 399cc LC4c liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine dishes 44.3hp at 8,500rpm and 39Nm at 6,500rpm, with 6-speed gearbox and slipper clutch. Tuned for mid-range punch, it hits 160kmph top speed with 25kmpl efficiency. The R's setup unlocks its full potential off-pavement, redefining accessible adventure biking.
