Kerala Transport Minister Ganesh Kumar Becomes First To Book Tata Sierra in State

Ganesh Kumar’s test drive and booking spotlight Tata Sierra’s revival as excitement builds across Kerala’s SUV market.

Kerala Transport Minister K.B. Ganesh Kumar recently took the wheel of the newly launched Tata Sierra SUV, expressing his admiration for the vehicle in a viral video shared by the official Tata Motors Kerala Instagram handle. The clip captures the minister praising the SUV’s design, spacious interior, advanced technology, and impressive performance during his test drive. After experiencing the vehicle firsthand, Ganesh proceeded to book a Tata Sierra for himself, marking what is believed to be the first official booking of the model in Kerala. His endorsement highlights the growing excitement around the revival of the iconic Sierra nameplate after nearly two decades.

The Tata Sierra has been reintroduced with a modern design that blends nostalgia with contemporary features, appealing strongly to Indian buyers and enthusiasts. The SUV offers three engine options: a 1.5-liter Kryojet turbo diesel producing 118 PS and up to 280 Nm of torque, a new 1.5-liter TGDi Hyperion petrol, and a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated Revotron petrol engine. Transmission choices include 6-speed manual and 7-speed DCT options, catering to a wide range of driving preferences. The combination of powerful engines and efficient drivetrains has made the Sierra a strong contender in the competitive mid-size SUV segment.

Inside, the Tata Sierra features a premium cabin with three dashboard displays—one for the driver and two for infotainment that can share content seamlessly. It includes a four-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo, touch-sensitive controls, a 12-speaker JBL sound system, a first-in-segment SonicShaft soundbar, dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated and powered front seats, and a wireless charger. The interior is enhanced with soft-touch panels and a floating armrest, giving it a modern and upscale feel. These features position the Sierra as a well-equipped option in its price range.

Safety is a key highlight, with the Sierra equipped with a Level 2 ADAS suite including an electronic parking brake, a 360-degree camera, dual blind spot detectors, and ESP with multiple functions. Standard safety equipment comprises six airbags, seatbelt pre-tensioners, Isofix child seat anchors, and three-point ELR seat belts for all passengers. The SUV is priced between ₹11.49 lakh and ₹21.29 lakh (ex-showroom), making it accessible yet feature-rich. The minister’s personal interest and booking reflect the strong initial response the Tata Sierra has received across the country.
