JSW MG Motor India Emerges Second-Largest Player in Luxury EV Segment
The MG M9 and Cyberster propel JSW MG Motor to second place in luxury EV sales.
JSW MG Motor India has ascended to the second spot among luxury electric vehicle manufacturers in the country, propelled by strong demand for its flagship models, the MG Cyberster sports car and the MG M9 Presidential Limousine. According to Vahan portal data for September 2025, the joint venture between India's JSW Group and China's SAIC Motor outperformed several established rivals in the premium EV space, which includes global giants like Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Audi. This achievement highlights the growing acceptance of affordable luxury EVs in India, amid a market shift toward sustainable mobility driven by government incentives and rising consumer awareness.
The MG Cyberster, an all-electric convertible sports car previewed at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo in early 2025 and launched in July, has emerged as India's top-selling sports car, with 256 units retailed through the company's exclusive MG Select luxury channel. Priced starting at Rs 65 lakh (ex-showroom), it features a dual-motor setup delivering 496 bhp and a 580 km range, appealing to enthusiasts seeking performance without emissions. Meanwhile, the MG M9, a stretched luxury limousine based on the Maxus MIFA 9 platform, offers opulent interiors and advanced tech, targeting high-end buyers. Both models face waiting periods of up to 3-4 months, underscoring their popularity.
Milind Shah, Interim Head of MG Select, stated, "Securing the second spot in India's luxury EV segment is a testament to the phenomenal response our models have received. Both the MG Cyberster and the MG M9 Presidential Limousine are drawing discerning customers who seek something truly exclusive, whether it's the sheer exhilaration of open-top performance or the presence of uncompromising luxury. At MG Select, we're proud to create this exclusive ownership experience."
On the broader front, JSW MG Motor India reported robust overall sales of 6,728 units in September 2025, marking a 34% year-on-year growth from 5,021 units in September 2024. This surge encompasses both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicle models, bolstered by a recent reduction in GST rates on EVs and the festive momentum of Navratri. The company's portfolio, including popular models like the Hector SUV and Comet EV, has benefited from these factors, enhancing customer sentiment and driving footfall at dealerships.

This milestone positions JSW MG Motor India as a formidable player in India's evolving automotive landscape, where EV adoption is accelerating. With the government's push for electrification through schemes like FAME-III and infrastructure development, the firm aims to expand its luxury offerings further. Industry analysts note that such growth could intensify competition, potentially lowering prices and spurring innovation in the premium segment.
