Jaguar Type 01 Debuts As Electric GT With 1,030 HP And 720 Km Range

Jaguar has officially revealed the Type 01, its first production electric GT and the most powerful model in the company's history. With more than 1,000 hp, a claimed range of up to 720 km under the WLTP cycle and a design closely related to the Type 00 concept, the Type 01 represents a major shift in Jaguar's approach to performance and luxury. The model introduces the brand's new “exuberant modernism” design language in production form.

The exterior remains remarkably close to the Type 00 concept, with Jaguar's new “strikethrough” design element dominating the front and rear. The front features four-line daytime running lights and Jaguar's slimmest headlights to date, while active shutters assist with cooling. Despite its upright front profile, the Type 01 has a claimed drag coefficient of 0.23, supported by active aerodynamic elements and smooth body surfaces.

The car measures 3.2 metres between the wheels and rides on large 23-inch wheels. Its split battery layout uses five modules, with one positioned in the extended space between the front axle and the A-pillar. Jaguar adopted the arrangement because the car's low 1,400 mm roof height leaves limited room for a conventional battery pack. At the rear, the Type 01 uses a camera-based digital rear-view mirror instead of a conventional rear windscreen, while an active spoiler can adjust between three positions.

Inside, the Type 01 combines a minimalist cabin with a technology-focused layout. A central spine divides the interior into four zones and incorporates storage and a rear touchscreen controller. A single 24-inch display combines the instrument cluster and infotainment functions, while physical controls have been kept to a minimum. The rear seats are more restricted, with limited headroom and smaller windows, partly because of the vehicle's low roof and battery configuration.

Power comes from a three-motor setup with two motors at the rear and one at the front. Jaguar quotes 1,030 hp and 1,365 Nm of torque, allowing the roughly 2.7-tonne electric GT to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 3.2 seconds. The company also highlights a 100-180 kmph acceleration time of 4.0 seconds, underlining the Type 01's focus on high-speed performance.

The Type 01 uses a 120 kWh NMC battery, with 118 kWh available for use, and offers a claimed WLTP range of up to 720 km. Its 850-volt electrical architecture supports charging at up to 350 kW, with Jaguar claiming that 321 km of range can be added in 13 minutes and a 10-80 per cent charge can take about 22 minutes. With its combination of high performance, long range and radical styling, the Type 01 marks one of the biggest departures from Jaguar's traditional models.
