Hyundai Bayon SUV Expected To Launch This Festive Season, Key Details Explained

Hyundai’s new SUV could launch during the festive season.

Hyundai Motor India has confirmed the name Bayon for its upcoming SUV in the Indian market, with the model expected to arrive during the festive season. The company said the global SUV will bring together its design philosophy and technology-focused approach, with further details about the India-spec version expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

The launch of the Bayon is part of Hyundai Motor India's broader plan to strengthen its position in the domestic passenger vehicle market. Managing Director and CEO Tarun Garg said earlier this month that the company is targeting a return to the second position in the market, supported by two new SUVs, including an electric vehicle, along with increased production capacity.

The Bayon is expected to be positioned between the Venue and Creta in Hyundai's SUV line-up. The upcoming model is likely to measure around 4.2 metres in length and could be offered with petrol and CNG powertrains. Although it will retain the Bayon name used in international markets, the India-spec SUV is expected to receive a substantially different design aimed at local buyers.

The SUV has already been spotted testing on Indian roads on multiple occasions. Based on the test vehicles, the Bayon is expected to adopt a crossover-inspired design, with features such as sleek LED lighting and squared wheel arches. The cabin is also expected to get a redesigned dashboard with curved dual screens, a new steering wheel and lighter-coloured interior elements, while automatic transmission variants are also anticipated.

The Bayon name is inspired by Bayonne, a city in France's Basque region. Hyundai said the name reflects the model's global design philosophy and its focus on style, technology and adventure for Indian customers. Meanwhile, Hyundai is also preparing to expand its electric vehicle ecosystem, with plans to increase its EV charging network, EV-ready sales and service facilities and specialised dealership infrastructure.

Hyundai Motor India's current EV portfolio includes the Ioniq 5 and Creta Electric, while the company has more than 2,600 trained dealership service personnel for EV maintenance and repair. The next-generation Creta is also expected in India in early 2027, with a refreshed design, larger dimensions and a possible hybrid powertrain option, adding to Hyundai's upcoming product strategy.
