Honda Confirms RA626H Engine Partnership with Aston Martin Starting 2026 F1 Season

Honda launches its new RA626H engine in Tokyo to power Aston Martin in F1 from 2026, ending the Red Bull tie-up under fresh technical rules.

Honda has officially unveiled its new RA626H power unit, confirming that it will supply engines to the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One team from the 2026 season onwards. The announcement marks the Japanese manufacturer’s full-time return to Formula 1 as a works engine supplier, aligned with the introduction of the sport’s new technical regulations.

The RA626H engine was revealed in Tokyo, formally beginning Honda’s partnership with the British racing outfit. From 2026, Aston Martin will become Honda’s exclusive Formula 1 partner, a move that signals a major shift in the competitive landscape as teams prepare for sweeping changes to power unit design, efficiency, and sustainability requirements.

Honda’s return comes after an extended and highly successful association with Red Bull Racing and its sister team, Racing Bulls, spanning seven and eight years respectively. During that period, Honda-powered cars achieved multiple championships. However, with the reset of regulations scheduled for 2026, Honda has opted to end its collaboration with Red Bull and embark on a new long-term project with Aston Martin.

The transition is being managed by Andy Cowell, Aston Martin’s former team principal and current chief strategy officer, who brings extensive experience from his time at Mercedes High Performance Powertrains. Cowell played a key role in developing championship-winning engines during Formula 1’s hybrid era, making his involvement central to Aston Martin’s ambitions under the new rules.

Strengthening the project further, renowned Formula 1 designer Adrian Newey has taken on the role of team boss at Aston Martin. Newey’s presence is expected to significantly influence the car’s overall design philosophy, ensuring close integration between chassis and power unit development.

Honda’s commitment to the RA626H programme underlines its renewed focus on innovation and sustainability in top-level motorsport. As Formula 1 enters a new era in 2026, the Honda–Aston Martin partnership is set to be one of the most closely watched alliances on the grid.
