Genesis GV90 Flagship SUV to Pack 490 kW and 115 kWh Battery

The first technical details of the upcoming Genesis GV90 electric flagship SUV have emerged, offering an early look at the performance and battery technology expected from Hyundai Motor Group’s premium brand. The luxury electric SUV is reported to feature a dual-motor powertrain producing 490 kW of combined power, along with a battery offering 115 kWh of usable capacity. Genesis has not yet formally unveiled the production model, leaving several specifications and launch details to be confirmed.

The GV90 is expected to become one of Genesis’ most significant electric vehicles and will sit at the top end of the brand’s SUV range. Genesis first previewed the model through the Neolun concept in 2024, which provided an indication of the design direction and luxury positioning planned for the production SUV. The forthcoming model is expected to target the premium electric SUV segment, where manufacturers are increasingly competing on range, performance, technology and interior space.

Reports about the GV90 first surfaced in 2023, when Genesis was said to be developing a large electric SUV based on Hyundai Motor Group’s new eM platform. The model is expected to be similar in overall size to the Hyundai Ioniq 9 and Kia EV9, although those vehicles use the group’s E-GMP architecture. The use of a newer platform is expected to give the GV90 access to updated electric vehicle technology and help distinguish the luxury SUV from existing models within the group.

The reported 490 kW dual-motor system would give the GV90 substantial performance credentials, while the 115 kWh usable battery is expected to support long-distance driving. A large battery is particularly important in the premium electric SUV segment because of the vehicles’ size and weight. However, Genesis has yet to release official figures for driving range, acceleration, charging speeds or energy efficiency, so the real-world capabilities of the production model remain unclear.

Genesis is expected to position the GV90 against high-end electric SUVs from established luxury manufacturers. Potential rivals include the SUV version of the Mercedes EQS and Cadillac’s Lyriq, placing the Genesis model in a highly competitive part of the electric vehicle market. The company has previously indicated its ambitions to expand its electric vehicle portfolio, and the GV90 would give the brand a flagship model capable of competing in the large luxury SUV category.

The GV90’s development has been closely watched after its expected June 2026 unveiling did not take place. Recent spy photographs have shown heavily camouflaged prototypes undergoing testing, while Genesis has continued to keep detailed information about the vehicle under wraps. With the reported powertrain and battery specifications now emerging, attention will turn to the official launch, when Genesis is expected to reveal the SUV’s final design, performance figures, range, charging technology, pricing and market availability.
