Five-Star Safety, 510 Km Range: JSW's Chery iCaur V23 Is A Serious Harrier EV Rival
JSW's Chery iCaur V23 brings AWD, a 510 km range and five-star safety to India.
Chinese automaker Chery is preparing to introduce the Chery iCaur V23 in India later this year through a collaboration with JSW Motors. The upcoming electric SUV is expected to be positioned as a rival to the Tata Harrier EV in the rapidly growing mid-size electric SUV segment. Recent sightings of a heavily camouflaged test vehicle on Indian roads suggest that development work is underway, with the model likely to carry JSW branding under the partnership between the two companies.
The iCaur V23 is expected to compete with several electric SUVs already present or planned for the Indian market, including the Mahindra BE 6, Maruti e Vitara, MG ZS EV and Tata Curvv EV. Based on international specifications, the SUV measures about 4,220 mm in length, 1,915 mm in width and 1,845 mm in height, with a 2,735 mm wheelbase. These dimensions are expected to provide a spacious cabin and competitive road presence similar to larger SUVs in the segment.
Globally, the electric SUV is offered with two powertrain options. The rear-wheel-drive variant produces 136 horsepower and 180 Nm of torque, paired with a 59.93 kWh battery pack and a claimed range of around 401 km on the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC). A more powerful all-wheel-drive version generates 211 horsepower and 292 Nm of torque with an 81.76 kWh battery pack, delivering a claimed range of up to 510 km. The AWD variant can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in about 7.5 seconds, while the RWD model achieves the same in roughly 11 seconds.

The SUV also supports DC fast charging with speeds between 85 kW and 104 kW, allowing quicker battery top-ups for daily use. In safety tests conducted under the ASEAN NCAP v4 protocol, the iCaur V23 secured a five-star rating. Reports suggest that the model could be assembled locally at JSW’s facility in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Maharashtra, aligning with India’s “Make in India” manufacturing push and strengthening JSW’s ambitions to expand its electric vehicle portfolio.
