Dominar 400 Vs Speed 400: Touring Versus City Roadster Showdown
Two Bajaj-backed motorcycles compared for price and performance
Bajaj Auto has expanded its mid-capacity motorcycle lineup in India with a revised Dominar 400, now powered by a downsized 349cc engine, while Triumph Motorcycles—operated under Bajaj’s partnership—has also introduced its updated 350cc range. With both motorcycles now competing in a similar performance bracket and price band close to ₹2 lakh–₹2.3 lakh (ex-showroom), buyers are faced with a clear choice between a touring-focused machine and a retro-styled roadster designed for everyday riding.
In terms of engine performance, the Bajaj Dominar 400 comes equipped with a 349cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produces 40.6 hp and 33.2 Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed gearbox. The Triumph Speed 400, meanwhile, generates slightly lower output at around 37 hp and 32 Nm from its 350cc engine. While both motorcycles offer strong mid-range performance suitable for highways and city rides, the Dominar has a slight edge in outright power delivery, making it more orientated towards long-distance touring.
On the hardware and design front, both motorcycles retain their core architecture from their respective larger-engine versions. The Dominar 400 continues with its beam-type perimeter frame, 43 mm USD front forks with 135 mm travel, and a rear mono-shock setup, along with a heavier kerb weight of 193 kg that enhances its stability on highways. This setup reinforces its identity as a touring machine built for long-distance comfort and high-speed stability rather than quick urban manoeuvrability.

The Triumph Speed 400, on the other hand, uses a hybrid spine/perimeter tubular steel frame with a bolt-on rear subframe, supported by 43 mm upside-down forks and a gas-charged rear monoshock. With a lighter, more agile build and around 164 mm ground clearance, it is designed as a roadster that balances daily commuting ease with occasional spirited riding. Its ergonomics and handling characteristics make it more suitable for city environments and shorter weekend rides compared to the Dominar’s touring bias.
In terms of pricing, the Bajaj Dominar 400 is positioned at ₹2.03 lakh (ex-showroom), making it the more affordable option between the two. The Triumph Speed 400 is priced higher at around ₹2.31 lakh (ex-showroom), reflecting its premium branding and roadster positioning. Ultimately, the Dominar 400 is better suited for riders prioritising highway comfort, stability, and value, while the Triumph Speed 400 appeals more to urban riders seeking a refined, lightweight, and stylish motorcycle for everyday use.
