BYD Brazil Plant Produces 100,000th Vehicle Amid Rising Demand

BYD Brazil plant produces its 100,000th vehicle milestone.

Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD has achieved a significant production milestone at its manufacturing facility in Camaçari, Bahia, with the rollout of its 100,000th vehicle. The landmark vehicle was produced on July 16, just over a year after the plant commenced operations on July 1, 2025. The achievement reflects the company's rapid expansion in Brazil as demand for its electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles continues to grow across the region.

The milestone vehicle was the BYD Dolphin Mini, one of the company's most popular entry-level electric cars in Brazil. The model is currently priced from 118,900 Brazilian reais (approximately USD 23,270) before limited-time promotional discounts. Sales figures released by BYD show that the company delivered 99,029 vehicles during the first half of 2026, including 21,254 units in June alone. The Dolphin Mini was among the best-selling models during the month, recording 6,457 deliveries.

BYD's Camaçari plant currently has an annual production capacity of 150,000 vehicles, although the company plans to expand this significantly in the coming years. Its long-term objective is to increase annual production to 600,000 units, positioning the facility as one of the largest automotive manufacturing hubs in the region. To support the expansion, the company introduced a second production shift in November 2025, enabling higher manufacturing output to meet growing domestic and export demand.

The Brazilian manufacturing facility has also contributed substantially to local employment. BYD announced that its workforce at the plant has now exceeded 5,500 employees, while the company is working to increase the localisation of components used in Brazilian-built vehicles. According to the manufacturer, the target is to achieve a 50 per cent localisation rate, strengthening the domestic supply chain and increasing local manufacturing participation.

Beyond serving the Brazilian market, the Camaçari plant is expected to become an important export hub for Latin America. BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li recently stated that the facility has secured export orders for 100,000 vehicles, evenly divided between Argentina and Mexico, with 50,000 vehicles allocated to each market. At present, the factory assembles three models—the all-electric BYD Dolphin Mini and the plug-in hybrid BYD King and BYD Song Pro—with additional models expected to enter production in the future.

BYD continues to accelerate its international expansion as competition intensifies in China's domestic electric vehicle market. According to industry sales data, the company sold 1,777,321 vehicles globally, while domestic deliveries declined compared with the previous year. Through continued investment in overseas manufacturing and exports, BYD aims to strengthen its international presence, with the long-term goal of becoming Brazil's best-selling automobile brand by 2030.
