Audi Q9 Targets Luxury SUV Segment With Premium Seven-Seat Interior

Audi previewed Q9’s luxury cabin and technology-heavy flagship SUV design.

Audi has revealed the interior details of its upcoming flagship SUV, the Audi Q9, ahead of its official global unveiling scheduled for July 29. The new three-row luxury SUV is expected to compete directly with rivals such as the Mercedes-Benz GLS and BMW X7 as Audi expands and modernises its premium SUV portfolio.

While the exterior of the Q9 remains heavily camouflaged in teaser images, the company has revealed several key details about the cabin, describing it as a “sanctuary” designed for family travel, long-distance journeys and business-class comfort. The SUV will offer seating for up to seven occupants along with easier access to the third row, making it Audi’s first full-size luxury SUV in this segment.

One of the standout features of the Q9 is the inclusion of electrically powered doors, a first for an Audi production model. The SUV will also feature a large illuminated panoramic sunroof with switchable transparency technology, allowing occupants to control light penetration inside the cabin. Audi has further equipped the vehicle with an advanced 4D sound system aimed at delivering a more immersive in-car audio experience.

The company has also highlighted an optional six-seat configuration designed to maximise passenger comfort. In this layout, the second row receives two electrically adjustable captain seats with active ventilation integrated into both the seat cushions and backrests. The setup is intended to offer a “business-class” experience for rear passengers, reinforcing the Q9’s positioning as Audi’s most luxurious SUV to date.

Although technical specifications and powertrain details have not yet been fully disclosed, the Q9 is expected to feature the latest digital cockpit technologies, advanced driver assistance systems and premium connectivity features in line with Audi’s new-generation luxury vehicles. The SUV’s large dimensions visible through teaser images suggest a strong focus on interior space and road presence.

The launch of the Q9 forms part of Audi’s broader strategy to refresh its global lineup amid increasing competition in the luxury SUV segment. With demand for high-end three-row SUVs continuing to grow worldwide, the Q9 is expected to play a key role in strengthening Audi’s position against established rivals in the premium full-size SUV market.
