2026 Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680 Gets Updated V8 and New Styling

Mercedes-Maybach has unveiled the 2026 GLS 680 with a series of updates that include a more powerful V8 engine, refreshed exterior styling and a more luxurious cabin. While the flagship SUV retains its familiar silhouette, the latest facelift introduces meaningful upgrades in design, technology, comfort and performance. The model is aimed at buyers seeking a premium luxury SUV with enhanced refinement and advanced features.

At the front, the updated GLS 680 features redesigned LED headlamps with dual three-pointed-star daytime running light signatures and a revised chrome-rich grille. The grille surround and Maybach lettering are now illuminated, while an illuminated Mercedes bonnet emblem is available as an option. New exterior paint finishes such as Dark Petrol and Verde Silver Metallic have also been introduced. Standard equipment now includes 22-inch alloy wheels, with 23-inch monoblock wheels offered as an option. Illuminated powered side steps and Maybach logo projectors further enhance the SUV's premium appearance.

Inside, the cabin adopts Mercedes-Benz's latest Hyperscreen layout, comprising three 12.3-inch displays for the digital instrument cluster, infotainment system and front passenger display. The infotainment system runs on the new MB.OS platform, supporting over-the-air software updates and an AI-powered assistant that integrates ChatGPT, Google Gemini and Microsoft Copilot. The dashboard has also been redesigned with wider central air vents, while physical controls for the four-zone climate control system have been retained for ease of use.

Mercedes-Maybach has also improved passenger comfort with enhanced massage functions for the front seats, while rear-seat occupants now receive massage-enabled footrests. Buyers can choose from new leather upholstery options and interior colour combinations, and the Burmester 3D surround sound system has been upgraded to a 15-speaker setup powered by a 710W amplifier. Additional sound insulation has been incorporated throughout the cabin to create an even quieter driving experience.

Powering the 2026 Maybach GLS 680 is Mercedes-Benz's updated M177 Evo 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine, producing 603 hp and 850 Nm of torque. Compared to the previous model, output has increased by 53 hp and 121 Nm. The engine is paired with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that can provide a temporary boost of 23 hp, improving acceleration and overall responsiveness.

The SUV also benefits from chassis enhancements designed to improve both ride comfort and handling. Mercedes-Benz has recalibrated the steering for better feedback and agility, while the standard air suspension now incorporates cloud-based predictive damping technology. The system uses road-condition data collected from other Mercedes-Benz vehicles to adjust suspension settings in advance, delivering a smoother and more composed ride across varying road surfaces.
