2026 Auto Lineup: Five Hybrid Cars, from Honda to Jetour, Ready for Launch

Five hybrid cars, including Honda Elevate and Jetour T2, are scheduled to launch in 2026.

The Indian automotive market is gearing up for a notable expansion in hybrid vehicle offerings in 2026, with at least five distinct hybrid models expected to debut during the year — ranging from mainstream SUVs to new-market entrants from global and domestic manufacturers. These launches reflect rising consumer interest in fuel-efficient and low-emission alternatives amid tightening regulatory norms and growing sustainability awareness.

One of the most anticipated additions is the Honda Elevate Hybrid, slated for launch in the second half of 2026. The hybrid version of Honda’s compact SUV will combine a 1.5-litre Atkinson-cycle petrol engine with electric motors and a compact battery pack — a setup expected to deliver strong fuel efficiency (around 26–28 km per litre) while enhancing overall drive refinement.

Following close behind are entries from Renault and Nissan in the mid-sized SUV segment. The Renault Duster Hybrid will introduce a strong-hybrid powertrain combining a 1.8-litre petrol engine with dual electric motors and an 8-speed DHT (Dedicated Hybrid Transmission), offering balanced performance and efficiency. Its twin, the Nissan Tekton Hybrid, is set to share this hybrid architecture and compete in the same segment.

Another noteworthy entrant is the JSW MG Wuling Starlight 560‑based SUV, a seven-seater SUV scheduled for launch by late 2026. Positioned to challenge larger family SUVs, this model will add hybrid powertrain options to India’s broader hybrid portfolio, appealing to buyers seeking both space and efficiency.

Completing this anticipated list is the Jetour T2 i‑DM, set to debut ahead of the Diwali season in a plug-in hybrid configuration. The T2’s hybrid iteration is expected to use a 1.5-litre petrol hybrid system, marking Jetour’s entry into the hybrid SUV landscape in India.

Collectively, these hybrid model launches signal automakers’ strategic push toward efficient and environmentally friendlier alternatives as consumers increasingly prioritise running costs and emission reductions. With competition heating up in both strong-hybrid and plug-in hybrid segments, 2026 could be a pivotal year for accelerating hybrid adoption in the Indian auto market.
