Matter Motor Works Targets 60 Dealerships by FY26
Matter Motor Works Plans Annual Electric Bike Launches
Ahmedabad-based electric motorcycle manufacturer Matter Motor Works plans to introduce one new model each year for the next three years to drive volume growth, announced Co-founder and Group COO Arun Pratap Singh. The company, which launched its pioneering geared electric bike, AERA, in Delhi today, aims to establish up to 60 dealerships across India by the end of this fiscal year, with a strong focus on South India.
Singh told PTI, “We have a robust product pipeline, with at least one new launch annually for the next three years.” The company is exclusively focused on electric motorcycles, with no immediate plans to venture into scooters. The AERA, India’s first geared electric motorcycle priced between ₹1.74 lakh and ₹1.94 lakh (ex-showroom), began deliveries in October 2024 after six years of development. Initial sales were limited to Ahmedabad to refine the product based on consumer feedback before a nationwide rollout.
On expansion, Singh stated, “We’re targeting 30 dealerships by August, with 20 in South India, where the motorcycle segment thrives, and aim to reach 50–60 by fiscal year-end.” Matter’s Ahmedabad plant has a monthly capacity of 10,000 units, supporting ambitious sales targets of 10,000 vehicles this year and 50,000–60,000 in 2026.
The company is leveraging $80 million in prior funding and seeks an additional $200 million in the next two years, eyeing an IPO in three to four years. Addressing supply chain challenges, particularly rare earth magnet constraints, Singh noted ongoing talks with Chinese partners and exploration of non-rare-earth magnet alternatives from other regions to ensure supply stability.
Matter’s strategy emphasizes engineering innovation, with plans for a 150cc-equivalent model in late 2026 and a 125cc model in 2027, aligning with BS7 emission norms to compete with internal combustion engine (ICE) motorcycles.
