Honda Recalls 96 Rebel 500 Motorcycles In India Over Handle-Lock Screw
Recall begins in November; owners will be contacted by phone, SMS and email.
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has announced a voluntary recall of 96 Rebel 500 motorcycles in India over a potential issue with the handle-lock fixing screw. The affected motorcycles were manufactured between April 2025 and August 2025. According to the company, the screw may not have been tightened to the specified torque during assembly and could loosen over time, potentially affecting steering movement under certain conditions.
The recall is part of a larger global campaign initiated by Honda and is being carried out as a precautionary measure. HMSI has said it will replace the handle-lock fixing screw on all affected Rebel 500 motorcycles free of charge. The repair will be provided irrespective of whether the motorcycle is still covered by its warranty, meaning owners whose vehicles fall within the affected production range will not have to pay for the replacement.
Honda has scheduled the recall campaign to begin in the first week of November 2026 through its authorised BigWing dealership network. The company said owners of affected motorcycles will be contacted directly to inform them about the campaign. Communication will be carried out through phone calls, SMS notifications and email, with dealerships coordinating service appointments with customers.

HMSI said the issue relates specifically to the tightening of the handle-lock fixing screw during the motorcycle's assembly. If the screw loosens over time, it could potentially affect steering movement, which is why Honda is replacing the component as a precaution. The company has also stated that no incidents related to the issue have been reported in India as of September 30, 2026.
Owners who want to determine whether their Rebel 500 is included in the recall can use Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India's online verification system. Customers can visit the Recall Campaign section of the HMSI website and enter their motorcycle's Vehicle Identification Number, or VIN. The system will indicate whether the particular motorcycle falls under the affected batch covered by the campaign.
Customers whose motorcycles are included in the recall have been advised to contact their nearest authorised Honda BigWing dealership and arrange an inspection and replacement. The campaign covers 96 units manufactured during the specified period, and the replacement of the handle-lock fixing screw will be carried out without charge. Honda's direct notifications and VIN-based verification system are intended to help affected owners identify their vehicles and complete the repair.
