Honda ADV 160 Design Patented in India, Set to Challenge Yamaha Aerox and Hero Xoom

Honda patents ADV 160 design in India, signaling possible launch to compete with Yamaha Aerox 155 and Hero Xoom 160.

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India has patented the design of the Honda ADV 160 in India, sparking speculation about the possible launch of the premium adventure-style scooter in the domestic market. The move indicates that Honda could be preparing to enter the growing sporty scooter segment more aggressively, where models such as the Yamaha Aerox 155 and Hero Xoom 160 have already gained attention among younger buyers and performance-oriented riders.

The Honda ADV 160 is globally recognised for its rugged adventure-inspired styling combined with the practicality of a maxi-scooter. The scooter features a sharp front apron, tall windscreen, muscular body panels, long-travel suspension setup, and dual-purpose design elements aimed at urban as well as light touring use. Internationally, the ADV 160 is powered by a 157cc single-cylinder engine that also powers the Honda PCX160, delivering a balance of performance and fuel efficiency suitable for city commuting and highway riding.

If introduced in India, the ADV 160 would compete directly with sporty premium scooters such as the Yamaha Aerox 155 and the Hero Xoom 160, both of which target riders seeking higher performance and modern styling. The growing popularity of premium scooters in India has encouraged manufacturers to expand their offerings beyond conventional family-oriented models. Honda’s entry into this segment could further intensify competition and offer buyers more options in the adventure scooter category.

However, Honda has not officially confirmed plans to launch the ADV 160 in India. Industry experts note that design patent filings do not always guarantee a product launch, as companies often register designs to secure intellectual property rights and keep future options open. Despite this, the patent filing has generated excitement among motorcycle and scooter enthusiasts, many of whom have been waiting for Honda to bring its globally popular ADV series to the Indian market.
