India Records 13.61 Lakh Electric Two-Wheeler Sales From January To August 2026
Electric two-wheeler sales surge 60% through August 2026.
India’s electric two-wheeler market recorded more than 13.61 lakh sales in the first eight months of 2026, underlining the growing demand for battery-powered mobility. According to Vahan-based industry data, manufacturers sold 13,61,170 electric scooters and motorcycles between January and August, marking a 60 per cent increase from the 8,51,787 units sold during the same period in 2025.
The momentum remained strong in August, with electric two-wheeler sales reaching 1,82,936 units. This was a 67 per cent year-on-year increase from the 1,09,673 units recorded in August 2025. The sustained growth reflects rising consumer interest in electric mobility across urban and semi-urban markets, supported by a wider range of products and improving EV infrastructure.
TVS Motor Company emerged as the leading electric two-wheeler manufacturer during the January-August period, selling 3,56,579 units. The company accounted for around 26 per cent of the market and recorded 77 per cent growth compared with the corresponding period last year. Continued demand for the TVS iQube range has contributed significantly to its performance in the segment.

Bajaj Auto ranked second with 3,05,226 electric two-wheelers sold during the first eight months of the year. Its market share stood at around 22 per cent, compared with 21 per cent during the same period last year, while sales grew 69 per cent year-on-year. The expanding Chetak portfolio has been a key contributor to Bajaj's electric two-wheeler volumes.
Ather Energy recorded 2,29,099 units during the period, registering 83 per cent growth and taking its market share to 17 per cent from 15 per cent a year earlier. Hero MotoCorp's Vida brand recorded the fastest growth among the top four manufacturers, with sales rising 151 per cent to 1,48,069 units and its market share increasing from 7 per cent to 11 per cent.
Together, TVS Motor, Bajaj Auto, Ather Energy and Vida sold 10,38,973 electric two-wheelers, accounting for roughly 76 per cent of total sales through August. Electric two-wheeler volumes also crossed two lakh units in both June and July, indicating sustained demand. With sales already above 13.6 lakh units in eight months, the market is on course for another strong year if the current growth trend continues.
