A startling incident unfolded at Symbiosis Skills and Professional University in Kiwale, Pune, just hours before Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was set to preside over the institution’s sixth convocation ceremony on Thursday. A snake was discovered lurking beneath the stage designated for dignitaries, triggering a swift response from security personnel. The Free Press Journal obtained exclusive footage of the incident, highlighting the unexpected disruption at the high-profile event.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was also scheduled to attend the ceremony alongside the Defence Minister. The presence of such prominent figures underscored the significance of the event, making the security lapse all the more alarming. Authorities promptly addressed the situation to ensure the safety of all attendees, and the convocation proceeded as planned.
In preparation for the Defence Minister’s visit, Pimpri-Chinchwad authorities implemented temporary traffic restrictions. Vehicles traveling from Mulshi to Bavdhan and Pashan via Viva Circle were diverted through the NCC Office, Bhugaon, Kothrud, and True Value Underpass. Similarly, vehicles from the Chandani Chowk–Satara lane service road heading to Bavdhan and Pashan via Viva Chowk were rerouted via Kothrud or the DIY showroom to manage traffic flow and ensure security.

Following the convocation, Rajnath Singh was slated to attend a meeting at the Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE), a key facility under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in Pune. The meeting involved members of the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Defence, chaired by Singh, and included the Minister of State for Defence and Members of Parliament from both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
The incident at Symbiosis University serves as a reminder of the unpredictability of such events, even with stringent security measures in place. Authorities have yet to release further details about the type of snake or the measures taken to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
